As part of their leadership course’s service learning project, 55 senior nursing students orchestrated the KySS Walk under the faculty direction of Drs. Julie Novak, Jane Kirkpatrick, Interim Head of the School of Nursing, Melanie Braswell, and Karen Foli. Service learning principles and experiences were emphasized throughout the planning and implementation of the entire KySS Walk, which drew over 200 walkers. Committees, such as registration, site and security, and publicity, ensured the event would be a success. For students not directly involved with the KySS Walk, service learning projects were designed in area agencies that specifically addressed NAPNAP's goals surrounding mental health issues for children.
