KySS National Survey Data Base

We are very pleased to make the KySS National Survey Data Base available for members who have interest in conducting secondary data analyses on this data set. The Research Committee, chaired by Arlene Butz, ScD, RN, CPNP, assisted in developing an excellent process for members to request the data base. There is a tremendous amount of data from which research questions that will advance knowledge and improve clinical practice can be answered from the national KySS survey data. Thanks again to all of the KySS Survey Coordinators and to all the PNPs who collected this data to make this wonderful opportunity available.

Procedure for Accessing Data Analysis of NAPNAP KySS Database

The NAPNAP KySS Data Sets will be released to NAPNAP members only and may be released to nonmembers with special permission.
Applicant must complete NAPNAP KySS Data Analysis Request Form
Request form and required fee ($25.00) must be submitted to the NAPNAP National Office. The National Office verifies applicant member status. If applicant is not a NAPNAP member the request is forwarded to the Research Committee Chair for individual consideration.
If applicant is a member, the National Office sends copy of request form to NAPNAP Research Committee Chair who will designate committee members, based on expertise matched to the NAPNAP member's area of interest, to review the data request form. Research Committee will triage all KySS data analysis requests so that Dr. Melnyk will receive appropriate data analysis requests.
All requests must include*:

Research Question to be answered by KySS database.
Brief rationale for using KySS data to answer question.
Proposed Analysis (to include variable and statistical analysis that will be used).
Rationale for analysis.
Publication to which a manuscript will be sent
Anticipated time-line for completion of analysis and submission of the manuscript
Signed acknowledgement agreeing to the terms of the request.

After the Research Committee reviews the KySS Data Analysis Request Form, it will be sent on to Dr. Melnyk for final approval. If Dr. Melnyk does not agree with the request or believes the data analysis plan is incomplete or duplicative of her own research, she will contact the Research Committee to discuss the data request.
Approved KySS Data Analysis Request Forms will be sent to the National Office for processing. The National Office will then send the NAPNAP member a copy of the KySS database for the member to conduct their data analysis.
After the data analysis is complete, the member is required to submit manuscript for review by Research Committee and Dr. Melnyk.
Every manuscript using data from the KySS database must acknowledge the following funding sources in the manuscript:

*The NAPNAP Research Committee is available for consultation to assist the member with any section of the request.
